How to Stop Feeling Lost & Rediscover Yourself in Life

Life is a series of ups and downs and it is a constant struggle of finding yourself with each passing turbulence and set back. A lot of us have, at some point in life, have had the thought “I am lost” echo inside our mind. We all start off with some sort of plan in the beginning and we try to keep on the track. But somewhere along the way we tend to lose a sense of direction and meaning.

Usually this happens when we start conforming too much to societies arbitrary and external standards instead of listening to our own inner voice of reason. Following meaningless guidelines set by society can often lead us away from our true purpose and reality and could make us feel utterly lost in life.

It’s quite normal to feel lost at some point in life. But when that feeling exceeds the normal threshold, it can really take a toll on your mental health and wellbeing. This is why you need to look within and see what your inner voice says to you about the direction of your life.

If the voice from within keeps uttering words like “I’m lost”, “I feel lost” or “how do I find myself again”, then that means that you have lost sight of your purpose in life for the time being and need to regain it. You need to get out of this cycle you are stuck in, and find yourself again in order to stop feeling lost all of the time.

Tips on How to Find Yourself Again

Learning how to find yourself is a lifelong process but there is always that initial tough step to take to get started on your journey towards self discovery. Use the following tips to try to regain control of your direction in life.

1. Embrace Your Every Feeling

One of the quickest defense mechanisms people tend to adopt when they start feeling lost in life is to push away and repress all of their feelings and turn to a robotic routine. While this may work for some, it is definitely not the best strategy to use and can actually be very harmful in the long run.

Try to pinpoint your exact feelings and try to get to the root of what is causing them. Your heart usually knows the best solutions to your problems, all you need to do is listen to it. Channel your inner feelings and emotions and use them as a compass to guide you with difficulties in your life.

2. Build Self-Trust

Our biggest problem as human beings is our lack of faith and trust in ourselves. We usually know what we want and what is good for us but we hardly ever listen to our own advice unless someone else says it to us. This is where the hardship begins and this is where our biggest barrier lies- within ourselves.

You have to remember, even in your toughest times when you feel doubtful and you are asking yourself constantly “how to find myself again?” you have to preserve faith in yourself. If you don’t trust your own vision and have trust in your skills and abilities then all the hurdles will intensify in your life tenfold overnight. Learn to trust yourself.

3. Experiment with New Experiences

New experiences enrich life. You see a new perspective, a new way of doing things. When we feel lost and the question “how to find myself” keeps echoing throughout our hearts and minds, we usually tend to regress to old habits and patterns. We start falling back on unhealthy habits and routines just for the sake of temporary comfort, and these things makes us feel even more lost in the long run.

You have to keep trying to get new experiences and reach out for more opportunities. Even something as simple as a holiday in a new country can help you on your way to recovery. This way you will not only get out of your comfort zone but also learn new things which you didn’t know before.

4. Think Positively

This one is a bit tricky because negative thoughts tend to pop up in our head automatically and are very hard to get rid of. Despite all the difficulties you have to try to make positive thinking one of your main goals in life. Once you bring in positive thought in your daily life, the question of “when will I be done finding myself?” will finally be put to rest and you will have peace.
